Last week, I spoke on “Bytes and Minds: Navigating Mental Health in the Tech World” at WordCamp Netherlands 2023. Big thanks to Roan de Vries for capturing these moments.

The organisers of a web development conference called WordCamp Transylvania invited me to come give a presentation at their event. I enjoyed my last trip to Romania so much that I decided to head back again this year. I had never been to Transylvania so it was a great opportunity to see the countryside while I was at it. Everyone I talked to in Bucharest last year told me I would enjoy Transylvania more, and they were correct 🙂 The people are nice and things more move slowly in these parts.

WordCamp Norway happened last weekend. Lots of cool people, lots of cool conversations and great to finally meet some awesome people in the real world who I’ve known in the online world for a long time.
I attended/spoke at WordCamp Lisboa 2012 in Portugal. It was a great time. Thanks to Zé and the other organisers for putting on such an excellent event.

In case anyone wasn’t already aware, I’m somewhat obsessed with a piece of software called “WordPress”. My occupation now revolves around WordPress and I voluntarily let it suck up an inordinate amount of my time. I attended a conference called “WordCamp Edinburgh”, which is by far the biggest WordPress conference I’ve ever attended.
I met in person many people who I had only known in the online world for many years. It was amusing asking people what differences they perceived between the “real me” and the “virtual me”. Apparently I am much taller in person than they expected. Having the only video footage of you online be of you standing beside a giant does not help with such perceptions it seems 😉
It was particularly great to finally meet the co-founder of WordPress Mike Little, who it turns out is one of the most modest down to earth people I have ever met.

I attended WordCamp NZ 2009 in Wellington recently. The conference speakers (that includes me) were invited to a hangi afterwards.

That photo is actually a montage of three different photos. My old camera wasn’t up to the task of taking photos at night so I had to take two with the flash pointing in separate directions and another with no flash to show the coals. Hopefully it doesn’t look too photoshopped 🙂
