    Cluj-Napoca

I stayed in Cluj-Napoca for a few days following the WordCamp Transylvania conference. I had a great time in Cluj. It was terrific meeting up with Ivelina who was visiting from Bulgaria, Remkus from the Netherlands, Scribu in his homeland and making new friends including the delightful Anda, one of the local WordPress geeks who can you see a pic of below.

First Oslo cycling trip of 2013

With the first weekend of good weather, I took to the hills around Oslo on my mountain bike. This time I went with Ingvild, Live, Kaspars, Baiba and Marco. It was nice to have travelling companions for once 🙂 We started from Frognersetteren and had an easy trip downhill most of the way. We did have a brief uphill excursion through some seriously rough stuff. I don’t think I’m very good at taking it easy and spent most of my time falling off my bike or attempting, and usually failing, to ride through stupidly deep mud. Lots of fun though and we all made it back in one piece 🙂

Some people carried their bikes around the mud. Kaspars found a route which didn't require going through the mud. I on the other hand am stubborn and decided to go through the mud. Sometimes it worked, some it didn't :P I was a tad muddy by the end of the trip!

    17. mai

The 17th of May is the biggest public holiday of the year in Norway. All the Norwegian go crazy! They also dress up in funky traditional costumes. The girls wear striking little outfits called “bunad”. I headed into town to meet up with Marte and Ingvild, plus Baiba and my work colleagues Kaspars, Ron and Marco. A little rain shower dampened things a little bit, but the streets were still filled with partying Norwegians 🙂

  • Vor Frelsers Kirke

Harriet and I saw the strange looking spire of “Vor Frelsers Kirke” in København so decided to take a closer look. It turned out you can walk to the top, so we did 🙂 If you are ever in Denmark I definitely recommend heading up there as there’s a great view of the city from the top.

  • Harriet and I at Nyhavn

Harriet and I headed to Nyhaven, a small port area of København in Denmark with lots of awesome little restaurants and cafes.

  • 40% beer

I went for a beer with the lovely Fonda. I ended up drinking beer with 40% alcohol content. I’m going to file this in the “it seemed like a good idea at the time” basket! It tasted something like a cross between tequila and vodka. At no point did I sense a taste of beer 😛

  • Cross-country skiing cherry popped

I had my first cross country skiing trip recently. Ingvild, Live, Irene and myself headed to a small hytta (cabin) near Oslo. The weather was great and despite my being a bit slow and having to run down the occasional hill due to my meagre skiing skills, I made it to the end! Big thanks to Ingvild, Live and Irena for being awesome first-time ski instructors 🙂

  • Holmenkollen restaurant

I headed with Boban and Ivelina to the restaurant on Holmenkollen between sledding runs. It’s a great place to warm up between exciting sled rides down Korketrekkeren.

  • Virgin pilot

Ever wondered how bad someone looks the first time they fly a plane, and without any instruction? Well here’s my rather pitiful attempt. I crashed it again about an hour after this clip was taken and am about to go buy some replacement parts this afternoon to repair the damage! Fingers crossed my flying improves soon 🙂

  • Mountain biking with Melissa

Melissa and I went mountain biking along the Clutha river from Albert Town to Wanaka. We had an awesome time cruising along a sweet little dirt path.
