My friend Anna and I visted Dresden. I’d heard great things about the architecture in the city and was not disappointed. Unfortunately, my memory card malfunctioned and I lost most of the photos :/

Time to lose the fat!
I realised on Saturday that I am officially a fatty! That gut isn’t being poked out in this photo, that’s just what it looks like when I’m standing. I honestly didn’t realise how chubby I’d got until I was looking through a bunch of photos taken of me that day. I somehow became used to my gut bulging out in a disgusting kinda way. With that in mind, I will be regularly exercising from now on. Looking down and not being able to see my dick is not something I want to experience later in life!

This is me standing on a rock in Sächsische Schweiz FYI, I blame yummy Berlin food and severe laziness for my current physical state.

Hiking in Berlin
I experienced hiking Berlin style today. In Berlin, hiking means to go for a walk in the “wilderness”. In Berlin, “wilderness” refers to the bushy bits between the buildings 🙂 We took the train to the outskirts of town, then meandered our way through the suburbs, into some beautiful small parks with lots of bush, stopped for ice cream near the local palace then headed over to a lake. The weather was not compatible with swimming, but it was definitely compatible with walking. Lots of fun 🙂

Selfie plus a view of the lakeside from onboard the ferry 🙂
Großer Müggelsee, a lake on the outskirts of Berlin
The “hike” included some city streets, just to spice things up a bit.
This freakishly huge beetle looked like it was about to eat me ailve. The locals didn’t seem alarmed, so I’m assuming it is harmless though 🙂

Google Glass
Thanks to the lovely Sophia Dominguez for letting my try out her Google Glass. I had the pleasure of meeting her as she was touring around Europe writing about her experiences with Google Glass.
They were surprisingly easy to use and the screen was relatively non-distracting. I don’t think I would make much use of the photography functionality which seems to be one of the primary uses people find for it, but I love having a constant feed of information and I love walking, so having a constant feed of tweets and whatnot whizzing past the corner of my eyes could be quite useful on my way to work in the morning.
Check out Sophia’s Google Glass blog at sophiathroughglass.com.

My time in an asylum
My friend Alice and I visited the Lier sykehuset in Norway. It was a mental hospital built in 1926 and operated until 1985.
Between 1945 and 1974, staff at Lier sykehuset conducted experiments with LSD, performed lobotomi’s and tested new drugs which the pharmaceutical industry were not allowed to test. They also performed experimental research with radioactive isotopes on patients. Patients were known to have been placed in isolation and inflicted with prolonged use of belts and straitjackets.
Most of the buildings now sit abandoned and are due to be knocked down. Two of the buildings were fenced off and had warning signs, but two of them had an entrance way through their surrounding fences and an open door for entering the building through.

The past 22 years of decay has left the paint in a sorry of state of disrepair

Kölner Dom
I visited the Kölner Dom (aka Cologne Cathedral) in Köln with Julian Münster, an old hockey friend of mine. I went again the morning after and climbed to the top. For future reference, I suggest leaving your luggage behind before deciding to embark on climbing the staircase :/
We also headed to the Gaffel brewery to try the local brew called “Kölsch”, a slightly strange beer which is traditionally served in little 200 mL glasses.
