Avalanche
Chris Laing and I saw a huge avalanche come crashing down off the side of Mount Joffre, or at least I think that’s which mountain it was. I don’t know the area well enough to confirm which exact mountain it was, but it somewhere very near at least. We were in Pearl flat a little further down the valley at the time. Glad we weren’t directly below it that’s for sure!
The photo was taken just after it occurred as I wasn’t able to get my camera out in time before the bulk of it had plummeted to the valley floor.

New Years with Cassienne
Whilst enroute to a new job in Norway, I stopped off in Christchurch to spend New Years with one of my favourite people in the whole world, Cassienne. After a few months of feeling like hell, this was a great way to pep me up before heading on to a new life in Norway. We celebrated new years eve at a crazy old church with an outdoor fire and lots of fun people.

Wellington on a budget
I was broke, so in my attempts to live in Wellington city on the lowest possible budget I resorted to the cheapest backpackers accommodation I could find. NZ$15 per night is enough for a dorm room at “The Lodge in the City”, it isn’t luxury accommodation, but it’s clean enough that you can live there without seeing too many rats or other creeply crawlies in the bedrooms. The people there however are awesome! I met so many cool people in that place it wasn’t funny. I highly recommend anyone going to Wellington stays there.
And for fine dining, you can’t go past the local graffiti’d fish n chip shop! Surprisingly, this is a functioning shop and they do serve edible food there. I recommend avoiding anything not deep fried (makes sure all the bugs are killed 🙂 ). And to top it off, this fine establishment is only a couple of minutes walk up the road from The Lodge in the City!

Shoulder surgery tweets
For those of you unaware, I had shoulder surgery last week. I recall finding it incredibly amusing watching @ninjalikescheez tweeting immediately following surgery, so I decided to follow suit and risk public embarrassment and shame by doing likewise. Some would call posting your inner thoughts on a public timeline whilst drugged out of your mind crazy and stupid. I don’t disagree … but I did it anyway because I figured it would be amusing 🙂 I’ve posted highlights below for your amusement and so that I can reflect back on them in future without having to rifle through thousands of other tweets to find them.
Oh, and if you aren’t following me on Twitter already, please do so 🙂

Pleasant view from the hospital ward
I’m currently blobbing out on my bed at Mercy hospital after having a Laterjet procedure performed on m shoulder yesterday morning. I went for a walk earlier and took these photos out the ward windows on my phone.

Group trip to Idaburn
We made a group trip to the Idaburn dam to find skatable ice. That failed in epic fashion, so we did some team shots including the following super sexy duckface shot! Thanks to Devon Wallace for the photos.

Ed Waite on the left, yours truly at the top, Jaydee Cabral in the middle and Devon Wallace on right doing our best attempt at the super sexy duckface shot.
