  • Dunedin Vixens

The Dunedin Vixens (aka Dunedin Aces women) were an awesome team. Unfortunately an extra Y chromosome ruled me out of joining 🙁 Although I did play in goal for them once as an honorary woman.

The photo below is from their 2002 journey to the South Island Regional Inline Hockey Championships. Clockwise from top left: Emma Gordon, April George, Kezia Bibby, Tasha Szeto, Kate Williman, Martel Letica, Becky Szeto, Kerry Perkins and Natalie Syddal.

I found the following pictures on a DVD many years later. I have no idea who took the pictures or when they were taken (the date stamps were wrong).

  • Liverpool Bivvy

My first major tramping experience. Myself, Andy Helm, Maree Helm and Vanessa Green headed up the Matukituki valley towards Mt Aspring, then detoured up a ridiculously steep incline. The map showed that we were only travelling 200 m from the bottom to the top of the incline, however that was only the horisontal distance, the contour lines showed that it was an 800 m vertical climb to the top! This was before I started playing any sport whatsoever, so my fitness was almost zero. But I made it to the top where there was a spectacular view up the Matukituki valley towards Mt Aspring.

  • Black eye

Dang nabbit this hurt! Andrew Wiffen and I had a miscommunication during a baseball game and we collided. Unfortunately he put his elbow up to protect himself and took out my eye in the process! Mum decided it wasn’t painful enough already and tortured me further by taking photos of it.

  • Holes at Toko Mouth

Here are my holes from the mid-late 1980’s … actually, they’re not meant to be holes, the adults just didn’t get it. What I was trying to do was to create a barrier of sand so big that I could sit on the beach and watch the waves crash around me. It never worked very well (duh!) but I did build some rather large barriers in a vain attempt to stop the ocean. Wasted youth :p

  • Hoar frost in Central Otago

A hoar frost in Central Otago some time in the 1980’s. I think this photo was taken in the hills behind Alexandra. That’s not snow you can see on the fence, that’s frozen ice, crystallised from the air … very cool 🙂
