  • Beasts in Queenstown

The Dunedin Beasts team which I’m playing for in the Southern Ice Hockey League made a trip to Queenstown to play against a Queenstown team. We lost, but had heaps of fun en route πŸ™‚

  • Dunedin Bears

Well, we didn’t exactly set the league alight, but we had lots of fun and fought our way galiantly to last place in the Autumn 2007 Dunedin Ice Hockey League B-grade. Here are some photos taken by Joe Sales of my team the Bears. Thanks to Joe for letting me post them here.

I’m the one in the middle of the photo below. I was pretty wrecked by that stage and enjoying my breather whilst leaning on the boards πŸ™‚

This is our goalie, Jaimee Wood, she was totally awesome all season long and was the star of our team. A future superstar goalie in the making.

  • Beasts in the Easton Cup

I played for the Dunedin Beasts in the Easton Cup. I also dragged our superstar ring-in Jenel Bode to play with us πŸ™‚ Unfortunately she got injured and only played one and a bit games πŸ™ We got totally thumped in every game. Was lots of fun though and I can’t wait for the rest of the season!

  • Brooker Bunch and visitors

We’ve had quite a few visitors to the Brooker Bunch research group recently including Jane Nelson and Grace Morgan. This photo was taken facing away from the University of Otago Chemistry Department. From left: Jane Nelson, Grace Morgan, Humphrey Feltam, Ryan Hellyer, Jonathan Kitchen, Andy Noble, Owen Clements, Sally Brooker, Nick White and Scott Cameron.

  • Catlins trip with Kelly and Jon

Jon Kitchen and I took Kelly Kilpin on a whirl wind site seeing tour of the Catlins while she was here for Len Stock 2007. Getting Kelly to let me take her photo was a tad hazardous! Good time had by all and lots of pretty scenery was viewed on route.

  • The communicator

My dear friend Debbie Jordan won an award recently for “outstanding communicator” at the NZIC conference in Rotorua. Here’s the poster she presented at the conference.

  • Lehn Stock photos

The poster presentation at Lehn Stock 2007 was a good chance to network with chemists from other parts of the country.

A rather stunned looking Matt Polson walking in front of my attempt to take a photo of the Steel group from Canterbury. Matt used to be my lab demonstrator many moons ago.

  • Lehn Stock

I attended the Dunedin Supramolecular symposium and presented my poster on mixed cobalt(III)/silver(I) coordination complexes. The star of the show was Nobel prize laureate Jean Marie Lehn who spoke about his pioneering work in the area of supramolecular chemistry.

From the Supramolecular chemistry Wikipedia page : “Supramolecular chemistry refers to the area of chemistry which focuses on the noncovalent bondinghydrogen bonding, metal coordination, hydrophobic forces, van der Waals forces, pi-pi interactions, and/or electrostatic effects to assemble molecules into multimolecular complexes.
