  • Rikugi-en lions

I watched a traditional Japanese lion dance thingy at the Rikugi-en gardens in Tokyo. The lions seem to enjoy biting the heads of small children who promptly started screaming. I assumed they would stop on realising the kids were petrified, but no, they just kept on pretending to bite the kids. Very strange.

  • Tokyo city after sunset

I had one heck of a good view from the Tokyo Tower just after sunset.

  • Meija shrine

I saw a massive swathe of people walking along a pathway in Tokyo, so I followed them. After a slow 30 min walk, I ended up at the Meija shrine. The interesting thing wasn’t the shrine itself, but the incredible behaviour of the crowd. Thousands of people all walked in beautiful unison along the path, with no pushing or attempts to cut in line. It was an incredible thing to see and a beautiful example of differences between Japanese culture and my own.

  • Tokyo city at dusk

I went to the Tokyo Tower to catch a glimpse of a Japanese sunset from up high. Here are the first batch of photos right at sunset. I’ll post some photos from later in the evening soon.

  • Shanghai

I had a brief stopover in Shanghai enroute to Japan. They had some of the best airport food I’ve ever tried!

Unfortunately the view from the plane was appalling, the smog was horrendous.
