  • Tools menu on meetup.com

Sometimes when I create an event on meetup.com, the tools menu is present, and sometimes not. Any ideas on why this is the case?

I really need access to that, so that I can edit the number of members who can attend. I usually want to cap it at about 70’ish, but today I want it even lower, around 25 (limited by the number of people who can fit on a ferry).

  • Capsicum

This is an old photo I had lost. It was taken in 2008 and sent to my mum, to show how my capsicum plant was so much better than hers. Photo was taken in 8A 245 Cumberland St, Dunedin.

  • My first solo home!

It’ll be coming up a year soon that I’ve entered the world of grown-ups and gotten my first own pad to live in. It feels a little weird having a whole place to myself, not to mention excessive, but I am enjoying the benefits of being able to do what I want when I want.

  • I bought a new camera 🙂

Out with the “proper” camera and in with the GoPro 🙂 I remember seeing these when they first came out. I was super jealous, as I had attempted to make action cameras out of old camera parts before and the quality was nothing like as good as these fancy new GoPro things. Unfortunately their price was stupidly high too. The price is still stupidly high, but I’m not as poor now, and the quality is even better. After the death of my old Canon G1X, I realised that I really enjoyed having an indestructible easy to use camera which I could use at any time and anywhere, hence I decided to upgrade from my little Mobius to a GoPro Hero Silver and don’t have any immediate plans to replace my old “proper” camera.

Thanks to Mo for taking the picture of me, and Anna for posing for the giant eye shot.

  • Eilat

Earlier this year I travelled with 15 others from Berlin on a hiking excursion to Jordan. Enroute, we travelled through Eilat in Israel before attempting to cross the land border to Jordan. Unfortunately, we were told that the law had changed five days prior and we now required visas to make the border crossing :/

We found some emergency accommodation in Eilat and a day later found out that we didn’t need a visa at all, and could simply buy something called a “Jordan Pass”, which gave us access to a bunch of random attractions within Jordan. Being told we needed to pay to see a bunch of attractions we didn’t want to see, just to get across the border, seemed a tad odd. I can’t imagine Germany asking people travelling from Belgium to buy a ticket for a bunch of amusement parks, just so that someone could go hiking in Sächsischeschweiz.

After some run ins with a taxi on the opposite side of the border, and a brief police investigation of us (ask me in person if you want to know the full story behind this) and we were happily our way for our great Jordanian adventure 🙂

  • Carrots

What we eat now vs wild carrots.

Intensive cultivation over millenia has had way more effect on our food than genetic engineering has so far.
