  • Classic Indy Series – Detroit

Finished 13th due to an unfortunate run in with a backmarker. Still a fun race though πŸ™‚ I also caused an incident for someone else πŸ˜›

  • Meeting R2D2

I met R2D2 today. He seems like a pretty swell guy. I was surprised how big he is, but I guess it makes sense that he’s a bit chunk since Kenny Baker needed to fit inside him.

  • The cast is off πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

My stupid cast on my arm has been bugging me for weeks, and now it’s off πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

I can now clean my right arm pit and scratch my nose whilst eating πŸ˜€

  • Arm art

This is what happens when you let adults loose with a marker pen on your arm.

  • Busted arm

Well this blows arse :/ I was riding one of those nifty little shared Mobike bike’s along a cycle lane in Berlin when I bumped a concrete raised bit beside the path with the tyre, so I tried to move away from it. But somehow the whole tyre lost grip and the bike dropped to the ground suddenly and I decided to do some sort of lame poorly executed ninja dive move over the front of the bike. Unfortunately, I braced for the impact by hitting the pavement with my left arm, which broke my darned radius :/

It doesn’t look very impressive, but the emergency room doctors were quite insistent that I needed a cast on my arm.
I decided to fix my arm via the magical healing powers of blue. I’m not sure it worked so well though :/ Alexandra kindly cooked me some yummy food for dinner though, which cheered me up πŸ™‚

My current theory as to how I crashed, is that these Mobikes don’t use a fork, but a single bar instead comes down from the handle bars and connects to one side of the wheel. The other side has exaggerated spokes which poke out further than on a normal bike. It may have been that the spokes clipped the concrete bit jutting out of the pavement and when I tried to turn off of the concrete section, it could have pushed the spoke into it and caused the tire to slip out and send me hurtling towards the pavement in a less than pleasant manner. I’ll probably still ride Mobike’s once I’m back to full fitness again, but I’ll be a lot more careful in future πŸ˜› They are a great way to get around when you aren’t breaking your limbs on them.

This is the type of bike I was riding when the accident occurred.

  • Spreepark

I snapped this on my phone while cycling past Berlin’s abandoned Spreepark amusement park today.

  • Template for inline skating events at Tempelhoferfeld

We are meeting at Tempelhof [date TBA] to go inline skating. It would be great if you could join us πŸ™‚ We are meeting at 2:00 pm (5pm is better if it’s hot).

Levels: All levels are welcome. Lots of beginners join us, so don’t be shy πŸ™‚

    Meeting point:
We’ll meet in the Southwest corner of Tempelhofer Feld. I’ll be there with a bright red T-shirt on and a black cap (and skates obviously πŸ˜› ).
Closest public transport is S-Tempelhof (SΓΌdring S41/S42/S45) or U6-Tempelhof. It’s is about 3 minutes from the entrance of the S-Bahn across Tempelhofer Damm, then you enter the park, pass a few bicycle racks, continue the path to the right hand and then there is already the toilet container and next to it two concrete benches, where people will be busy changing their shoes (see the big blue X in the lower left hand corner below)

    What to bring:
There is no changing and storage place at Tempelhofer Feld so you need to be in comfortable clothes already and you need to bring a small backpack to carry your shoes and other stuff. Some water, sun cream and sun glasses might be helpful.

    Equipment:
Own inline skates required as there is no rental station nearby.
